Lilly A. Schwertner Schraer of Rowena passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at a nursing home in Brownwood at age 90.
She was born October 30, 1920 to Frank and Adala (Ernst) Schwertner in Runnels County. She grew up in Rowena/Lowake, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Lilly married Arnold Schraer on October 28, 1941, just two days before her twenty-first birthday. She and Arnold worked on their farm. She was a member of Farm Bureau, St. Ann’s Society and of the Christian Mothers.
Her family and her faith were very important to her, she loved to play dominos and her family loved for her to make kolaches.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her brothers, Ludwig and Victor; and her sisters, Katherine Werner and Dora Techacek
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Eugene of Eden, and Dennis and wife, Nancy, of Brownwood; and a daughter, Joyce and husband Frank Evridge of Midkiff; her grandchildren, Wesley Schraer, Kyle Schraer, John Evridge, Marty Schraer, Angela Lange, Jodi Evridge, Jenny Newland, Rebecca Schraer and Kristie Stone; her brother Robert and wife, Dorothy Ann; a sister-in-law, Lillie Schwertner; also surviving are numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Rowena.
The family extends special thanks to Hannah, Karen, Patricia and the rest of the staff of Lighthouse Hospice.
