Virgil Paul Cornett

December 24, 1926 — March 6, 2011

Virgil Paul Cornett, 84, of Ballinger passed away at his residence on Sunday March 6, 2011.

He was born December 24, 1926 in Lamesa, Texas to Jesse Allen and Eva Gertrude (Hester) Cornett. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Paul and Barbara Schneider were married in Welch, Texas on November 30, 1952. (He would teasingly give the date as Nov. 31.) For most of his life he was employed as a petroleum plant operator for El Paso Products, but he also farmed and after retirement operated a dairy farm. Paul thoroughly enjoyed being with family and friends, and his presence, along with his sense of humor and personality, will certainly be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by several siblings, Doris Ledbetter, Al Cornett, Sylvia Pruitt, Barney Cornett, Jack Cornett, Bill Cornett, and Nolan C. Cornett.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara of Ballinger; sons, Ron Cornett of Ballinger and Terry Cornett of Oregon; and a daughter, Cindy Dahlberg and husband, Dan, of Ballinger. Also surviving are two brothers, A. B. Cornett of Lubbock and Wayne Cornett of Greenwood, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Belvedere Memorial Park Cemetery in San Angelo with Bro. Bobby Broyles officiating.
