Terry Switzer

July 5, 1955 — August 14, 2011

On August 14, 2011 Kenneth “Terry” Switzer went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer.

Terry was born on July 5, 1955 in San Angelo to Dawse and Wanda (Green) Switzer. He grew up in Miles. He married Terre Horton on Friday, June 13, 1975. Terry was a trucker for many years. He retired from trucking in 2006 due to a disabling trucking accident.

Terry’s main passion in life was his family. Becoming a Papa was his greatest accomplishment and joy. He had a heart of gold and was always ready and willing to help others.

He was preceded in death by his father and by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Horton.

Terry is survived by his wife, Terre of Mereta; son, Daron Switzer and wife, Jennifer Mason, of Cabot, Arkansas; daughter, Morgan Hansen and husband, Gary, of Sweet Home, Oregon; mother, Wanda Switzer; father-in-law, Jim Horton and wife Karen; brother, David Switzer and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Mirenda Mason, Cheyenne Hansen, Peighton Switzer, Avery Hansen, Saxton Hansen, and Savannah Cook. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Sherre Trunk and husband Greg; niece, Katy Switzer and son Cooper; nephew, Seth Switzer and wife Cerina and children Gracie and Micade; nephew, Greg Trunk, Jr. and wife Shannon; and best friend, Bill Hilliard and wife Patsy.

Visitation will held at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger on Tuesday, August 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Anyone wishing to wear shorts to the visitation is welcome to do so to honor Terry’s memory. Funeral service will be held at Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger on Wednesday, August 17 at 1:00 pm. with graveside service to follow at Mereta Cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to Connie, Carol, and Reyna of Ballinger Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Terry and the rest of the family during Terry’s last weeks, and to Dr. John Harvey and Dr. Robert Prieto for their wonderful care.

Memorials may be made to the Mereta Cemetery Fund, Hospice of Ballinger, or to a favorite charity.
