Tillie Margaret Piel Moseley, 95, of Ballinger passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at San Angelo Community Medical Center.
She was born August 9, 1916 in Rowena to Paul G. and Josephine (Pelzel) Sturm. Tillie and David W. Piel were married January 4, 1938 in Rowena. He preceded her in death October 5, 1963. Later she married Luke Moseley, who preceded her in death in 1974. She was employed by Ballinger I.S.D. as a cafeteria worker for 20 years and also worked as a nursery caretaker at the First United Methodist Church for 20 years. For her devotion and her sweetness in those duties, she will be lovingly remembered by many parents, students, and children of Ballinger. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, flowers, and birds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David A.“Butch” Piel; daughters, Alice Piel St. John and Irene Piel Batts; sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Sturm, Louise Schwertner, Helen Matthiesen, and Josephine Schwertner; and brothers, Richard, Fred, Louis, and Henry Sturm.
Tillie is survived by sons, Gene Piel and wife, Mary, of Del Rio, Larry Piel and wife, Glenda, of Bangs; daughter, Janice Kurtz and husband, Randall, of Ballinger; grandchildren, Amy Batts, Jason Piel and wife, Darci, Jeffery Piel and wife, Tymonee, Carrie Ramos and husband, Isaac, Jessica Piel, Mac St. John, Jr. and wife, Bridgett, and Sherri Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Rylan and Kasen Piel, and Mandee St. John. Also surviving are son-in-law, David Batts of Ballinger; sisters, Emma Kruppa of San Angelo, Freida Jansa of San Angelo, Lorene Cmerek of Miles, Dorene Matthiesen of Sugarland, Rosa Schwertner of Lowake, Julia Rohmfeld of San Angelo, Jerline (Patsy) Rohmfeld of Ballinger, and Florine Odell Kellermeier of San Angelo; and a special niece, Becky Rohmfeld of Ballinger.
Rosary will be recited Friday, August 26 at 7:00 pm at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 27 at 10:00 am also at St Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Hubert Wade officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Central Texas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to Dr. Rightmire and her staff.
