Velma Lee Hammer

Velma Lee Hammer, 81, of Bronte passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at her residence.

She was born April 25, 1930 in Fort Worth to Joseph and Nellie (King) Moore. Velma married A. C. Hammer on December 24, 1946 in Weatherford and was employed as a traffic supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone. She was well-known and appreciated for her love of music and her music ministry. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and candle making.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a son, Sam Hammer.

Velma is survived by her devoted husband, A. C. Hammer of Bronte; children, Linda Lee Knox of Bronte, Gary Eugene Hammer of Bakersfield, California, Ronald Edwin Hammer of Ft. Worth, Peggy Sharon Hammer of Bronte, Deborah Diane Farquhar of Ft. Worth; and a sister Inez Mayfield. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Wesley, Nathan, Mathew, Larry, Christopher, Joshua, and Travis, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, September 15 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be Friday, September 16 at 1:00 pm at New Life Refuge Church in Ballinger. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Bronte.
