Bettye Jane Travis

Bettye Jane Travis, 84, of Ballinger, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

Bettye was born on April 16, 1927 in Post, Texas to Reason Duke (R.D.) Sr. and Alvesia Matheny Travis. She received a Masters degree in education and taught for 38 years, retiring from Austin ISD in 1986 and moving to Ballinger. She was a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and the Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles M. Travis and R.D. Travis, Jr., and two sisters, Lydia Holley and Mary “Sis” Smith.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including her niece, Luanne Kirk and husband Bill, Jr.; her nephews, Mark Travis and wife, Dana and Tim Travis and wife, Janice all of Ballinger; numerous great nieces and nephews, including Kristy Andrews and husband, Richard and their children, Colter and Kyleigh; Kirk Workman and wife, Dana and children, Daniel, Mary, and Amelia; Kirk Travis and wife, Lindsey and children, Shelby and Logan; Jill Battle and husband, Jason and their daughters, Jenna, Jessa, and Jolee; Sara Manniger and husband, Josh and children, Hayden and Skylar; Amy Nixon and husband, Lance and their daughters, Katy, Hannah and Halley; Kelly Clifton and husband, Brandon; and Tucker Travis and Tara Williams.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger with Max Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ballinger.

Memorials may be made to Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger, Ballinger Education Foundation, c/o Ballinger ISD, or a favorite charity.
