George Noriega Cavazos, Sr.

George Noriega Cavazos, Sr. went to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2011.

George was born to Alfredo and Benecia Cavazos on April 23, 1947 in Robstown, Texas. His family moved to Ballinger in 1961. On December 12, 1965 he married Mary Ellen Duarte and was blessed with three sons, one daughter, and a foster son. He worked at Rains-Seale Funeral Home and ran the East Side Texaco. The last 15 years he spent working with his sons at Cavazos Construction.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Freddy and Ramon Cavazos.

George is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Cavazos of Ballinger; his children, Daniel Cavazos and wife, Sandra, of Victoria; Ernest Cavazos and wife, Joy; Maria Lopez; and George Cavazos, Jr. and wife, Sheila, all of Ballinger. George had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Michael Cavazos of El Paso; Loreana and D. J. Cavazos of Victoria; Tanner Cavazos of San Angelo; Jade Cavazos of Ballinger; Felisha Lopez of Plano; Phillip Lopez of Lubbock; Bryce Lopez of Ballinger; Gabriel, Carissa, and Korey Cavazos of Ballinger. His great-grandson, Chase Cavazos, brought him many laughs. Also surviving is a brother, Dale (Lepe) Cavazos; and sisters, Eloisa Chapa; Elva Lopez and husband, Paul, of Ft. Worth; Minerva Herrera and husband, Andres, of Austin; and Nellie Salinas and husband, Aldolfo, of Cleburne.

Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 21 at 7:00 pm at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 am also at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Bob Baden celebrating. Burial will follow in the Latin American Cemetery in Ballinger. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Eldred, Shane Eldred, Benny Martinez, Gabriel Cavazos, Tanner Cavazos, Phillip Lopez, Ricky Gonzales, and Michael Cavazos. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryce Lopez, D. J. Cavazos, and Chase Cavazos.
