Gloria V Jenkins Grolla, age 82, died at home on November 18, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. She was born in Uvalde, TX on July 13, 1929, but grew up in Ballinger, TX. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, she went on to the University of Texas in Austin and received her BA in Mathematics. She went on to work for Shell Oil Company as a computer on a seismograph crew. It was there that she met and worked with her future husband Dick. The two married in 1955. The two made many moves, but spent most of their lives in New Orleans and Houston. Gloria was always involved in the church and sang in the church choir. After Dick died in 2006, Gloria returned to west Texas to be near family.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, her parents, two brothers, Frank Duane and John David Jenkins. She is survived by her only daughter Diane Forsdale and husband John of Santa Fe, NM; brother Paul Jenkins and wife La Ruth of San Angelo; four nephews and two nieces; and many dear friends. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dory Robb and all of the many other caregivers that so lovingly cared for Gloria in the final year of her life.
A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, 29 N. Oakes, San Angelo, at 3pm on Saturday, December 3, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, Gloria requested donations be made to the First Christian Church or the charity of your choice.
