Edgar Wayne Stafford

Edgar Wayne Stafford, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Sienna Nursing & Rehabilitation in Odessa, Texas.

He was born April 22, 1930 in McLean, Texas to Austin Edgar and Dolly Mae (Wise) Stafford. Wayne married Barbara LaVerne Marshall on August 3, 1948 in Pampa, Texas. She preceded him in death May 17, 2009. During WWII, he proudly served his country in the US Navy as an Electricians Mate Striker, achieving the rank of Fireman First Class.

Wayne began his lifelong career in the oil production industry working in the oilfield for Skelly Oil Company. He later worked for Shamrock Oil & Gas for 10 years, Buttes Oil & Gas, and was a self employed contract pumper for seven years. He was employed with Creole Oil and went overseas to work for Crescent Petroleum in Sarjah, Arabia.
Other employers were Jay Petroleum, U.R.C. Resources, Tescro Indonesia Oil & Gas, Jawaby, Tripoli, Lybia. As production foreman, his platform brought in the first barrel of oil in Sarjah and Dubi, Arabia.

He enjoyed his travels and work in the oilfield and offshore and was considered the gypsy of the family. In all his travels, he took his wife, Barbara, and their Chinese Pug, Jiggs, with him. He retired in Winters to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Appreciating the oil industry, he helped his oldest son begin his own oilfield career when David was 16 years old. Wayne’s passions were working on family history with his brother, Don, and daughter, Susie, being with family and friends, gardening, and planting plants, lovingly assisted with planting the seeds by his grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a sister, Mary Janice (Stafford) Cliett Anderson.

He is survived by his four children: daughter, Susie Kresta and husband, Dave, of Odessa; three sons, David Stafford and wife, Regina, of Midland, Marshall Lynn Stafford and wife, Echo, of Chula Vista, California, and Leslie Stafford of Quinlan, Texas; brothers, Donald Stafford of Chandler, Texas, and Jack Stafford of Skellytown, Texas. Six grand children and five great-grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcresent Cemetery in McLean, Texas.
