Gladys Irene (Fry) Davis

Gladys Irene Davis left this life on Friday, January 27, 2012 at her home in Ballinger. She was 96 years, 4 months and 20 days old.

Gladys was born September 7, 1915 in Oatmeal, Burnet County, Texas to the home of Albert and Ora (Glimp) Fry. In 1926, when Gladys was in the fifth grade, her family moved to Winters, Texas. She graduated from Winters High School in 1933.

Gladys moved to Ballinger in 1936 and worked as cashier for J.C. Penney until she moved to Monrovia, California in 1942 where she also worked for J.C. Penney as a bookkeeper for one year before going to work for the Pacific Railway in Monrovia.

On July 22, 1944 in Monrovia, California, Gladys married Foy (Buster) Davis who was in the Army Air force during World War II and was stationed in Ajo, Arizona.
After their marriage, she moved to Ajo until the war was over.

In 1956 Gladys and Buster moved to Artesia, New Mexico where they farmed for ten years before moving to a farm in Hobbs, New Mexico. While in Hobbs, she worked in the Hobbs school cafeterias for 17 years and during this time, she became a manager for one of the cafeterias.

When Gladys and Buster retired, they moved back to Ballinger in 1983.

Gladys loved to sew, plant big gardens and can vegetables, and work in the yard. She enjoyed doing things for others and helping them in any way she could. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and always loved going to church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Horace Fry, two sisters, Allabee Boyd and Mildred Stark, an infant son and her beloved husband who died July 22, 2000.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Breshears and husband, Curtis, of Portales, New Mexico and Judy Perry and husband, Lee, of Belton, Missouri, five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Fry of Ballinger.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 31 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Avenue B Church of Christ in Ballinger with burial following in Garden of Memories.

Pallbearers will her grandsons and great-grandsons: Craig Breshears, Lance Breshears, Kevin Breshears, David Cross, Cale Breshears, Shelden Breshears and Brett Breshears.
