Pauline Johnson

Pauline Johnson (Memaw), 87, of Ballinger went home to be with our Lord on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Central Texas Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Pauline was born March 22, 1924 to Plez and Mary Round Sheppard in San Augustine, Texas. She married Oscar Johnson on August 17, 1946 in Ballinger. Oscar and Pauline had ten children, five boys and 5 girls, including a pair of twin girls and a pair of twin boys. Pauline was a homemaker and mother and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Oscar preceded her in death in 1971.

Pauline was later blessed with her guardian angel, Mack Smith (DaDa). He has remained by her side all the way up to the end of her life. (We love you, DaDa, and are truly blessed to have you.)

Pauline’s family who preceded her in death include: her parents; husband, Oscar; sisters, Anna Ryan, Jeraldine Garret, Bobbie Davis; brothers, Roosevelt, Cleo, Clinton Ray and Clarence T. Shepherd; mother-in-law, Mary Johnson and sister-in-law, Carrie Hubbard.

She is survived by one sister, Annie Lee Murphy of Dallas; Mack Smith of Merlin, TX; five sons, Rev. Oscar W. Johnson and wife, Devise, of Dallas, Curtis Johnson and wife, Norma Jean, of Dallas, Claude Johnson and wife, Nancy, of Ballinger, Clifford Johnson and wife, Janet, of San Francisco, California, Larry Johnson and wife, Vetta, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five daughters, Charlotte A. Smith and of Montgomery, Alabama, Jennifer Johnson of San Angelo, Jeanette Johnson of Ballinger, Evelyn Inez Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Michelle Johnson of San Angelo. Also, surviving are a special adopted daughter, Annie Liddell of Ballinger; 42 grandchildren; 37 great, grandchildren; and 9 great, great, grandchildren. Pauline also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, special loved ones, relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers are Steve Brown, James Gray, Derrick Sneed, Charles Johnson, Charles Hutchinson, and Derikion Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Rev. Oscar Johnson, Clifford Johnson, Claude Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Larry Johnson and Darryl Smith.

Visitation for family and friends is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home. Service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jesus Christ Church, Ballinger with burial in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery.
