G. Max Wolverton

April 5, 1934 — February 18, 2012

Max Wolverton, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, February 18, 2012.

Papa was born April 5, 1934 in Wapanucka, OK to Skelly and Clarece (McLaughlin) Wolverton. He married Shirley Ann Dodson on October 18, 1952 in Ballinger and together had three daughters, DeeAnn, Gwyn and Lisa.

He loved to play golf, fish and tend to his yard. In his youth, he played basketball at Winters High School. He spent 40 years in the oilfield industry which had him and Shirley living in Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana before coming home to Ballinger where he retired.
Max was a member of the Ballinger Country Club and loved playing rounds of golf with all his buddies. He was a very loving and giving man and never met a stranger. He loved all his grandchildren, as they loved him.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Skelly and Clarece, Levi McLaughlin and parents-in-law, Will and Myrtle Dodson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Wolverton of Ballinger; three daughters, Dee Ann Anderson of Tucson, AZ, Gwyn Sims and husband, Jeff of Iraan, and Lisa Overby of Ozona. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jared Anderson, Janet Anderson, Jennifer Perkins and husband, Trey, Greg Gasser, and Jeremy Overby; special friends, Robert Arnold, Bob Black and Charlie Plumley; and 8 great grandchildren.

His brother, Jack Wolverton and wife, Zubie of King, NC and sister, Londa Johnson of Ada, OK and numerous nieces and nephews, Scot and Steve Farmer, Charles Simpson, Patti Ledingham and Ronnie Smith also survive.

There will be a time of viewing and visitation on Monday February 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Jonathon Burgess and Bro Chris Johnson of the First Baptist Church of Ozona will officiate.
