Mary Ella Robertson, 88, of Ballinger passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 18, 1923 in Swisher County, Texas to Audry Schley and Ada Letitia (Willey) Kiker. She was born on the same day her Grandmother Kiker died and in the same house, so Mary Ella was named after her grandmother.
Mary and Mack Alford Robertson were married in Borger, Texas on January 16, 1945, and the couple had lived in Ballinger since 1983. She and Mack were active, faithful members of the First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death February 24, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Crawford Kiker.
In 1960 she obtained a master’s degree in geography from West Texas A & M. Mary was a longtime and dedicated teacher, teaching third grade for 24 years in Sanford-Fritch ISD. She enjoyed painting and doing for others.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Donna Jensen and husband, Barry, of Mesa, Arizona; Kay Smith and husband, Steve, of Ballinger; Janice Cox and husband, Burl, of Arlington; brothers, Weldon Kiker of Amarillo, and Cecil Kiker of Carrollton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Aaron Cox, John Cox, Wendy Logue, Karyn Cooper and Braden, Keith Smith and Kim, Justin Smith and Rachel, Faith Bussey and Patrick; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, March 3 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family would like to express gratitude to Norma Bryan, Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, and to Hospice of Ballinger. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
