Bernadine Hoelscher Garner

Bernadine J. Hoelscher Garner, 87, of San Angelo, Texas passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

She was born November 7, 1924 in Rowena, Texas to Clemence Joseph and Agnes (Frerich) Hoelscher. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and attended college for a time. Bernadine proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. She was a very capable, self-sufficient, well-rounded individual who had various and interesting occupations, including work at the Pentagon. She worked at many other locations throughout the country and later in life was a Civil Service employee in a position with Social Security.

Bernadine especially enjoyed time with her family, nature, and crocheting She was an accomplished artist and served as both member and volunteer of the San Angelo Art Club. Until the last few months of her life, she also volunteered her time and energy to Shannon Medical Center. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Bob Garner; a sister, Audrey Russell; and brothers, Aldis and Leoran Hoelscher.

Bernadine is survived by her stepchildren, Bobby Garner and wife, Karen, of Austin, Angela K. Garner of Seattle, Washington, and Keith Garner of St. Louis, Missouri; her siblings, Charles Hoelscher and wife, Ann, of Grape Creek, MaryDee Hoelscher and husband, Marcus, of Hereford, and Cecilia Brosig and husband, E. H., of Paint Rock. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mary Ann Rodriguez and Amanda Paige Garner, both of Austin; and Matthew Alan Garner, Christine Suzanne Garner, and Johnathan Robert Garner, all of Missouri; and numerous, loving nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena with Fr. Ariel Lagunilla officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
