Eleanora Clara Zly

January 8, 1907 — June 4, 2012

Eleanora Clara (Fisher) Zly of Ballinger passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 105.

She was born January 8, 1907 in Westphalia, Texas to William J. and Frances Faltisek Fisher. The Fisher family moved from Bell County to Rowena in 1915. Eleanora was seven years old when she traveled in a covered wagon pulled by oxen. The family put everything they could in the wagon, and the furniture was shipped to Rowena by railroad. There were several wagons traveling together, stopping along the way to visit relatives and friends. She remembered eating by campfire. Upon arriving in Rowena, they found a barren land with no trees. There had been a destructive fire years before their arrival.

Eleanora and Cyril “CJ” Zly were married July 28, 1927 in San Angelo. He preceded her in death November 27, 1963. She was a homemaker and a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ballinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; her daughter, Regina Zly Cooksey; her sons, Clarence “Buddy” Zly and Daniel Zly; brothers, Alfred, Arthur and Isadore; sisters, Willa May Strakos, Lilly Schovajsa, Ida Hohensee, and Bernadine Herring; grandson, Wayne Cooksey; and granddaughters, Glenadora “Dolly” Cooksey and Karla Zly Cook.

Eleanora is survived by her son, Edwin Zly and wife, Eldoris, of Ballinger; daughters-in-law, Cecilia Janssen of Carrollton and Arlene Zly of Coyanosa; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Ellen Jean Duke, Laura and Brad Brevard, Martha and Rick Rose, Eddie and Calvin Wiese, Rebecca and Mark Livingston, Carolyn Cooksey Logan, Cathryn Zly, Sheila and Chad Lehnert, Mark Zly, Monica and David Ivy, Michael and Karla Zly, Joan and Dennis Lange, Herbert and Vicki Goetz, Terry and David Snyder and Clayton Gaskamp. Also surviving are 24 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 7 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ballinger. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena.
