Media Pearl Davis

Media Pearl Davis, 91, of Ballinger passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center

She was born January 20, 1921 in Hatchel, Texas to William Thomas Foy and Sara Maud (Witt) Davis. She married Morris Stokes on May 11, 1941 in Ballinger. He passed away May 2, 1970. Media Pearl and Allen Davis were married on December 29, 1974. Mr. Davis preceded her in death April 16, 2000. She was also preceded by her parents; a son, Joe Stokes; and siblings, Chester and Edward Davis, Ovella Garrett, Horace Davis Gladys Bedford, and Foy "Buster" Davis.

For several years she was employed as clerk with the Soil Conservation Service. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Daughters of the Nile, past president of United Methodist Women, as well as participating in various other church and community activities. She enjoyed “88” and bridge and played both regularly. She was well-known and respected as a gracious lady with a kind word and a ready smile for everyone, always willing to help others.

Media Pearl is survived by her daughter, Kathy Fritze of Ballinger, and a son David Stokes of Tulsa, OK; stepdaughters, Patricia Hammer of Huntsville, AL, Rebecca DeWees of San Antonio, and Kathleen Cox of Athens, TX. Also surviving are two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren and 13 step great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Marion Davis of Canyon and Mary Ellen Breshears and husband, Curtis, of Portales, NM.

Special appreciation is extended to caregivers, Sheila Rumsey and Kay Scott.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 26 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 27 at 4:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Ballinger with burial in Garden of Memories.
