Obituary for Nelsene Hamilton

Nelsene Hamilton, 88, of Ballinger passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Amanda Nelsene Thomasson was born in Runnels County, Texas on March 24, 1924 to Pete Lessly and Clemmie Jewel (Whidden) Thomasson. Nelsene and Christian Earl Hamilton were married October 2, 1941 in Ballinger. Trained as a medication nurse, she worked at the old Ballinger Hospital and at nursing homes. She was a long-time member of the Hatchel Church of Christ and more recently of 9th Street Church of Christ in Ballinger. Nelsene enjoyed crocheting, afghans being one of her specialties, and she also liked puzzle books.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978; son, William Earl; sister, Katrine Hamilton; and two brothers, Jim and Bob Thomasson.

Nelsene is survived by her sons, Odell Hamilton and wife, Sandy, of Magnolia; Phillip Hamilton and wife, Debbie, of Quail Valley; and Herman Hamilton and wife, Kathy, of Ballinger; brothers, W.A. Thomasson and wife, Betty, of Napa, Idaho; and Less Thomasson of Clyde. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Talitha Frye, Amanda Hall, Sabryna Hamilton, William Hamilton, Jeffrey Hamilton, Nyssah Perrine, Hank Hamilton, and Nathan Hamilton; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will take place Saturday, August 18 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. at 9th Street Church of Christ with Alan Murphy, Max Pratt, and Less Thomasson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Runnels Cemetery.

The family extends special appreciation to Dr. Martinez, Chey and all the staff of Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab, Odyssey Hospice, and Odyssey Chaplain, Ellen King.
