Aubrey "Cleo" Burks

Aubrey “Cleo” Burks, 83, long-time and well-known resident of Ballinger passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 in Ballinger Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 1, 1929 in Runnels County to Sanford Wesley and Melissa Almeda (Wadkins) Burks. He served with the US Marine Corp from 1948 to 1952 returning to the Ballinger area where he worked for a local furniture store for many years.

Cleo married Dorothy Leck on July 16, 1988 in Carrizo Springs, TX and they shared 24 years together. He was a member of the local American Legion and the First Christian Church of Ballinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Wesley Burks.

Cleo is survived by his wife Dorothy, a daughter Julia Evans and husband, Wes of San Angelo; step children, Peggy Wilson and husband, Bobby of Ballinger, Marilyn McShan of Bridgeport, TX, and Patricia White of Valrico, FL.; grandchildren, Baylea Evans, Christopher Wilson and wife Elizabeth, Elizabeth Shaffer and husband, Andrew, Eric White and wife Marion, Chad White and wife Katy, Bryan McShan, Marcus McShan and wife Angie, and Amanda Townley and husband, John. Seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Winston Burks and wife Ada Lou also survive.

The family would like to thank Tammy Drummond and all of the employees of Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab Center for their love, help and care of Cleo for the past year, and the employees of Ballinger Memorial Hospital.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, September 2 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery.
