Dorothy Ruth (Smith) Hays 85, of Ballinger passed peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 1, 2012.

She was born on September 26, 1926 in O’Donnell, TX to Roy D. and Angie Lee (Chastain) Smith. She married William Blair Hays on December 23, 1943 in O’Donnell. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2004.

Dorothy was a hairdresser but continued to help on the family ranch in Runnels County. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger, involved in the Friendship Sunday School Class and was a Communion Steward for many years.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and was the last of six children.

She is survived by her son, Larry and wife, Lucy, of Ballinger and her daughter, Cynthia Jones and husband, Jerry, of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Brian Jones, Amy Baird and husband, Mike, and Carol Gully and husband, Brent; eight great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Brothers-in-law, Gordon Hays and wife, Lenell, Eugene Robertson, and Jack Hancock and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger with Rev. Buddy Moore, Rev. Eugene Robertson, and Rev. Charles Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Laurie Coffman officiating.

The family requests that memorials may be made to the Aldersgate Enrichment Center, 5000 Hwy 183, Brownwood, TX 76801, or to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 525, Ballinger, TX 76821, or to a charity of choice.
