Lee Allen Halfmann, 83, of Ballinger went home to the Lord on September 9, 2012.
Lee was born July 5, 1929 in Orange Grove, Texas to Leo William and Sophie Marie (Boehm) Halfmann. He attended school at St. Joseph’s in Rowena and graduated in 1947. On May 27, 1952 he married Nora Mae Wendland, who preceded him in death October 28, 1992. He honorably served in the U.S. Marines for several years during the Korean War, achieving the rank of sergeant, before returning home to farm. Lee loved farming, ranching, hunting, and fishing and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ballinger. In January, 1994 he married his beloved wife, Nelda Kline Baker. Lee was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Fuchs and Billy Kline; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holubec and Helen Mahlow and her husband, LaVan Mahlow.
Lee is survived by his wife, Nelda of Ballinger; son Norman Halfmann and wife, Pam, of Ballinger; grandson, Branden Halfmann and wife, Jennifer, great-grandchildren, Jacob Shannon, MiKenzie Halfmann, and Jennah Halfmann all of Ballinger; stepson, Wayne Baker of Ballinger; stepdaughters, Cindy Kornved and husband, Andy, of Alamogordo, NM and Kathy McCullough and husband, Rod, of Susanville, CA; six step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his three sisters, Bernice Fuchs of Rowena, Charlene Matthiesen and husband, Arnold, of Olfen, JoAnn Halfmann and husband, Leon, of St. Lawrence; two brothers, Alton Halfmann and wife, Della, of Fort Worth and Delbert Halfmann and wife, Jeannie, of St. Lawrence; brothers-in-law, Johnny Kline and wife, Kay, Julius Holubec, all of Ballinger, Marvin Wendland and wife, Doris, Eugene Wendland and wife, Doris, all of San Angelo; sister-in-law, Madeline Kline of Jonesboro, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Hubert Wade celebrating. Burial will be at Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Lee’s memory to St. Mary Catholic Church Seminarian Burse or a favorite charity.
