Alex Martinez

Alex Martinez, 80, of Norton passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at his residence.

He was born July 17, 1932 in Monterey, Mexico to Espiotaso and Paulina (Estrada) Martinez. Alex and Lillie Jimenez were married September 10, 1955 in Seguin, Texas, and in 1958 the family moved to this area of Texas. He farmed in the Norton/Wilmeth/Wingate communities until he retired 15 years ago and turned the farming duties over to his sons. He was well-known and respected, especially for his hard work and his knowledge of farming. After retirement he worked in his garden, raised vegetables to sell, and still supervised most of the activities of his family. He also served for a time in the Texas National Guard.

Alex is survived by his wife, Lillie Martinez of the home; sons, Eddie Joe, Manuel and Poncho Martinez all of Norton; daughters, Mary Carlin, Candy Ramos and Anita Martinez all of Ballinger; grandchildren, Kristin Weber, Natalie Anne Corrales, Raymond Ramos, Jr., and A.J., Travis and Christopher Martinez; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Aiden Weber, Landyn and Zander Martinez, Caleb, Ariel and Arianna Corrales, and Alexis, Paulina and Ashton Ramos. Also surviving are sisters and brothers,
Marra Saenz of Laredo, Nancy Martinez of Monterey, Mexico, Sisto Martinez of Monterall, Mexico and Tomas Martinez.

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ballinger with Fr. Hugh Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Wilmeth Cemetery, near Norton. Serving as pallbearers will be W. B. Farris, Chris Jernigan, Doyle Lange, Benedict Hoelscher, A. J. Martinez and Travis Martinez.
