Hilary (H.H.) Gully

H.H. (Hilary) Gully, 79, of Olfen died Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2008 in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Hilary was born on September 4, 1928 in Ballinger to Gus A. and Bernadine (Halfmann) Gully. He married Mildred Laverne Englert on July 7, 1951 prior to his service in the US Army during the Korean War. He farmed and ranched in the Olfen Community all his life.

Hilary was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen and the Knights of Columbus Council # 2772. He served on the Olfen School Board for 12 years, St. Boniface Parish Council, Millersview-Doole Water Board, Runnels County Appraisal Review Board, and was on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Rowena.
After retirement he worked for TBWEF for eight years. He also enjoyed working his goats with his faithful companion, Tipper, at his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, B.J. and Arthur Gully, by a sister, Mary Frey, and a great-grandson, Cole Harrell.

Hilary is survived by his wife, Mildred Laverne of the home; six children, Linda Schwertner and husband, Harvey, of Miles; Donna Willberg and husband, Ralph, of Paint Rock; Rick Gully and wife, Dana, of Lubbock; Danny Gully of San Antonio; Nancy Evans and husband, Lee, of Lowake; and Michael Gully of Ozona. Also surviving are two sisters, Lillie Biedermann of Austin, Jean Hoelscher of Rowena, and one sister-in-law, Laverne Gully of Olfen.

Fourteen grandchildren survive: Paul Schwertner and wife, Kim; Kelly Harrell and husband, Todd; Jodie Helms and husband, Todd; Lea, Lori, and Grant Schwertner; Kim Halfmann and husband, Russell; Kristy Fuchs and husband, Allan; Kelsey Willberg; Andrea Hallmark and husband, Bryan; Matt Gully and fiancée, Kathryn Attwater; Jamie Gully; Becky Wyatt and husband, Heath; Stacy McWright and wife, Tory. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tiffany, and Teresa Schwertner; Conner Harrell; Reagan and Trent Helms; Matthew and Mason Halfmann; Claire and Evan Fuchs; and Kaitlee Wyatt, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary led by Fr. Bernard Gully will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen. A celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 30th at St. Boniface with Fr. Hugh Wade officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lange Funeral Home.
