Calvin B. Werner, 72, of Mereta, Texas passed away January 1, 2013 at his residence, the same homestead where he was born.

He was born at home in Mereta on September 9, 1940 to Robert and Katherine Werner who preceded him in death. He lived his entire life in the community and farmed in Tom Green and Concho Counties. Calvin married Lucille Niehues on May 5, 1962 in Ballinger, and the couple raised three children. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Berlin Wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mereta, Knights of Columbus, and Farm Bureau.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Lucille of Mereta; children, Steven Werner and wife, Susan, of Paint Rock, Janell Eckert and husband, Danny, of San Angelo, Richard Werner and wife, Karen, of Lewisville; and sister, Theresa Sonnenberg of Eola. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Stephanie Eckert, Sterling Eckert, Megan Werner, Falon Werner,
R. J. Werner, and Haylee Werner, and numerous other relatives.

Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 3 at 5:30 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 4 at St. Joseph Church with Father Hugh Wade and Father Chinna Pagidela con-celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
