Charlene Turner

Charlene Turner, 77, of Ballinger, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at a San Angelo care center. She was born May 4, 1935 in San Angelo, to Charles Earnest and Addie Mae (Martin) Carroll. Charlene married her love, Bobby Lynn Turner on May 26, 1951 in San Angelo and moved to Ballinger in 1959, They were members of the First Christian Church. Charlene was a homemaker, artist, and crafter. Many of her paintings depicted the deserts & mountains she and Bobby loved. She taught art, and her oil painting won Best of Show in’88 at the Ballinger Country Fair.

In the ‘60’s, Charlene was pitcher for the Ballinger ‘Chicks’, playing Women’s Fast-Pitch Softball. “Choc” was known for her steady, under-handed ‘wind-up & let ‘er rip’ style. She will also be remembered for her practical jokes, especially if you were one of her victims.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bobby, a brother, Charles Carroll; sister, Nobie Williams, and daughter, Janie Anderson.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Wiley and husband Johnny of Ponchatoula, LA; daughter Diana Lee of San Angelo; sons Lynn Turner of Ballinger, and Randy Turner and wife, Carol, of Christoval; granddaughters Shanna Calaway and husband Jody, Sonia Goltl, and Crystal Goltl-Pitts; grandsons Shane Watkins, Ricky Goltl, Jr.and wife Cristie, Kenny Anderson, Zachary Turner, Beau and Dane Turner, and their mother, Sandie Turner: 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; beloved Cindy Breeding and husband Doug of Abilene, and dear pal Charlene ‘Sparky’ Greggerson. She also leaves behind countless cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

The family thanks the staff of Regency House in San Angelo, and Lighthouse Hospice. The nurses and aides who cared for Charlene with such compassion won’t be forgotten. Thank you also to Lange Funeral Home for their services.


There will be a memorial service at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 12, at the First Christian Church of Ballinger, at 401 N. Broadway St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Ballinger.
