Mary Gonzales Hollis (Aunt Mae), 54, of Abilene passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

She was born September 6, 1958 in Ballinger, Texas to Joe M. and Teresa (Arteaga) Gonzales. She graduated from Ballinger High School in 1978 and was employed as a Correctional Officer 4 at John Middleton Unit in Abilene for seven years.

Aunt Mae was known for her awesome hot sauce and tortillas (the size of flying saucers), her big heart, and bright smile.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ramon Gonzales.

Mary is survived by her parents; three sisters, Angie Gonzales of Abilene, Abigail Luera and husband, David, of San Angelo, and Irene Sauceda and husband, Ruben, of Ballinger; three brothers, Joe Gonzales and wife, Ruby, of Round Rock, Orlando Gonzales of Ballinger, and David Gonzales and wife, Linda, of Peaster. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Denise Gonzales, David Hooks and wife, Jenna, Michael Gonzales and wife, Angela, Kasie Gonzales, Noelle Hooks, Devin Sauceda, Olivia Gonzales, Taylor-Lynn Luera, Sabrina Salinas Gonzales, Austin Sauceda, Christian Gonzales (Godson), Lance Sauceda, and David Chance Luera.

Rosary will be recited Friday, January 11 at 7:00 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 12 at 10:00 am also at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Hugh Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Latin-American Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Johnson, Chris Escobar, John Lopez, Ira Burns, James Kemp, and Colby Dello. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. An Honor Guard from the Middleton Unit will consist of Jesse King, James Huffman, Shane Lassiter, and Jimmy Garza.
