Jean Josephine Batts

Jean Josephine Batts, 84, of South Toledo, died on Monday, February 18, 2008. She was born March 3, 1923, in Oakdale, Nebraska, the second of three children to Otha and Alma Drake. The family moved to Oakland, California during the dust bowl where Jean graduated from high school and worked as a medical technologist.

During the war, she met a soldier: Wilbourn M. Batts, son of Bernard Batts and resident of Ballinger, Texas. They married in 1946, settled in Denver, Colorado, and became the parents of two sons. Mrs.Batts was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbourn. She is survived by her sons Gary (Sue) of Toledo and Alan (Linda) of Fort Worth, Texas; granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth; brothers Kenneth Drake of Oakland, California, and Russell Drake of Peoria, Arizona; a brother-in-law, David Batts of Ballinger; two nephews and a niece.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger, Texas, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, also in Ballinger.
