Alfred (A. C.) Carson Hammer, Jr.

Rev. Alfred Carson (A. C.) Hammer, Jr. of Bronte, Texas passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. He was 82.

He was born July 17, 1930 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Alfred Carson, Sr. and Agnes Springer Vaughan Hammer. He married Velma Lee Moore December 24, 1946 in Weatherford. She preceded him in death September 13, 2011.

A. C. managed grocery stores for 35 years, working first for A. L. Davis Grocery, then Kimbel Grocery, and later for Buddies. He was also a minister of Pentecostal Church of God, Assemblies of God, and The Four-Square Gospel Church. He and his wife were a special ministerial team and worked together faithfully for many years.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Alfred Carson (Sam).

A. C. is survived by his children, Linda Knox of Bronte, Gary Hammer of Bakersfield, California, Ronald Hammer of Fort Worth, Peggy Hammer of Bronte, and Deborah Farquhar of Ft. Worth; brothers. John Hammer of Sherman, Lonnie Hammer and Danny Hammer both of Ft. Worth. Also surviving are grandchildren, Wesley, Nathan, Mathew, Larry, Christopher, Joshua, and Travis, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 12 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Bronte.
