Ronald Ray “Butch” Roggenkamp, 65, of Ballinger passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his residence.
He was born March 3, 1948 in El Campo, Texas to Arthur Ray and Margie Nell (McLean) Roggenkamp. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War in the late 1960’s. In appreciation for his 8000 hours of volunteer service with the National Park Service, he received the Presidential Call to Serve Award in 2012. Butch married Velma “Gene” Leihy on June 23, 1983 in Glen Rose, Texas. The community will remember him as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service. Everyone knew “Butch, the Mail Man,” who delivered mail for 21 years. He was a member of Ninth Street Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Nell Parks.
Butch is survived by his wife, Gene, of Ballinger; his father, Arthur Ray Roggenkamp of Cedar Park; his children, Quintin Scott Roggenkamp of Charles Town, WV, Evangeline Rene Roggenkamp of Fort Worth, Medea Suzanne Davis of Ballinger, Cassandra Michelle Avants of Saint George, SC, and Jason Keith Lutes of Ft. Worth; sisters and brothers, Lana McDearmon of Briggs, Donna McNaught-Torres, Roger Roggenkamp of Orange, Terry Roggenkamp of Cedar Park, and David Roggenkamp of Lumberton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger with Max Pratt officiating.
Butch asked that memorial donations may be made to the March of Dimes in lieu of flowers.
