Joe Martin Deeds

Joe Martin Deeds, 73, of Ballinger passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his residence.

He was born January 6, 1935 in San Saba, Texas to Calvin and Mittie Ozelle (Harkey) Deeds. He married Linda Smith on January 10, 1959 in Brady. Joe was a well-respected, well-liked businessman in Ballinger, managing the Winns Store for several years, along with Linda’s able assistance. He was also an insurance sales representative for Royal Neighbors of America. He was an active, contributing member of the entire community. He was a lifetime member of Ballinger Lions Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and served on the Ballinger ISD School Board. Joe greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing and fearlessly participated in rattlesnake roundups. He was an avid Bearcat fan, especially when the grandsons were participating.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Jarvis Deeds.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Ballinger; his daughters, Lisa Fischer and husband, Alton, of Ballinger; Julie Deeds Wilson and husband, Jim, of Ballinger; and a brother, James Deeds of Austin. Also surviving are grandchildren, Cote Deeds, Jesse Deeds, Zac Fischer, Joshua Fischer, Kelsey Fischer; and a longtime, special friend, Tom Lee.

There will be a time of visitation for family and friends Thursday, March 20th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Placid Cemetery in Placid, Texas with Lanny Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Lange Funeral Home.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Karen Rightmire and to Sonya Rose of Ballinger Hospice. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, Ballinger Hospice, or a favorite charity.
