Raul E. Ortega, 80, of Ballinger passed away Friday, March 28, 2008 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Aurora Gomez Ortega, on January 12, 1986.

Raul was born on September 25, 1927 in Benjamin, Texas to Enrique and Sophia Ortega, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were sisters, Juanita Rivera, Adelena Gutierrez, Josephina Sepeda, and a brother, Andres Ortega

All of his life his first priority was his family. He always took the time to take special care of his children and grandchildren even into their adulthood, as well as caring for the beloved dog, Ally. His second love was playing and enjoying music with friends and with his band, Club 13.

Raul is survived by his daughter, Anita Martinez and husband, Benny, of Ballinger; son, Eddie Ortega and wife, Sherry, of Ballinger; daughter Diana Reyes of Grand Prairie;
son Ray Ortega and wife, Lillie, of Quanah. He is also survived by sisters, Alice Leal of Poteet; Rosa Martinez of Sweetwater; and brother, Henry Ortega of Sweetwater. Also surviving are five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends in the Ballinger, Winters, and Sweetwater area.

Rosary will be recited Friday, March 28th at 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Father Bob Baden officiating. Funeral services for Mr. Ortega will be held Saturday, March 29th at 1:00 p.m. also at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Winters.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
