Alta Audrey (Bowman) Lawdermilk passed away on Wednesday April 2, 2008 after suffering from congestive heart failure for the past several years. Alta was born on March 12, 1921 in Maverick, Texas and was blessed to have celebrated her 87th birthday with many family members in attendance at the Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Alta is survived by her only child, Charlotte Foster and her husband, Robert, of Austin, Texas. Two grandchildren, Christa Foster of Austin and Cindy Reynolds and her husband, Tim, along with Alta’s great grandchildren, Kelsey and Foster Reynolds live in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Alta lived many years in Paint Rock on the Smith Ranch with her daughter and husband, White, and owned and operated “Alta’s Beauty Shop” in Paint Rock, Rowena, San Angelo, and Ballinger at various times in her career. Her life was full of friends and wonderful relationships.

Alta’s first husband and father to Charlotte, Sgt. Ralph E. Green, Jr., was killed in action on April 20, 1944 in WWII. Her parents, Benjamin and Dora Bowman, brothers, J. K. Bowman, R. W. Bowman and his wife, Mary Bess, and a sister, Leona and her husband Slim Spivey all preceded her in death. She is survived by four brothers and their wives, Virgil and T.J. Bowman and Ben and Rita Bowman of Ballinger, Melvin and Bettie Bowman of Hearn, Texas, and W. C. and Jean Bowman of Bryan, Texas, as well as one sister and husband, Dorene and Ken Edborg of San Angelo. Juanita Bowman, wife to deceased brother, J. K. and sister to R. E. Green, Jr. resides in Ballinger along with many nieces, nephews and cousins…including a special cousin, L. K. and his wife, Barbara Lankford, of Ballinger.

Special thanks go to all the Hospice and nursing home staff that made Alta comfortable in the last few weeks of her life. The family is very appreciative of your efforts.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, April 4th from 6:00 – 7:00 P. M. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. There will be a graveside service at 11:30 A. M. on Saturday, April, 5th at the Paint Rock Cemetery and a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, Ballinger Hospice, or a favorite charity of your choice.

Work like you don’t need money,
Love like you’ve never been hurt,
And dance like no one’s watching.
(From Charlotte’s favorite poem for her Mom “Dance Like Nobody Is Watching”)
