Robert Jerome Kohutek, 77 of Ballinger, Texas passed away at his residence on September 7, 2013. He was born on December 30, 1935 to John and Mary (Kubicek) Kohutek in Rowena, TX. He was the youngest of four children who all preceded him in death. Bobby (Bobino, as his mother called him) was born and raised in the Rowena/Ballinger area. He graduated from St. Joseph’s school in Rowena in 1954. He married Jeanette Hirt in 1956 and she preceded him in death in September 1964.Together they had four children: Melissa, Dana, Cheryl and Robby. He married Betty Jo Schraeder in May 1965. Together they had two children: Stacey and Tina. Daddy led a life of varied means. As a young man, he worked on a seismograph crew. He then started his family and moved to St. Lawrence where he began farming. In 1970 he moved his family to Ballinger where he helped his father farm. He also worked for the Texas Highway Department at that time. In 1972 he moved his family to Big Lake where he became a government trapper (the best the state ever had). After that he moved to Sonora where he was a pumper until he retired to Ballinger. He re-opened his parents bait stand on the river road and operated “Bob’s Bait” until his death.
He is survived by his wife Betty of the home, daughters Melissa Slusher and husband Dana, Dana Routh and husband Larry, Cheryl Maxie and husband Bobby, Tina Gothard and husband Butch and sons Robby Kohutek and wife Jera, and Stacey Kohutek. He is also survived by many grandchildren who knew him as popo: Robin Parker and husband Phillip, Ryan Slusher, Jamie Bird and wife Sonya, Kassi Bird, Larry Routh Jr. and wife Kim, LeeAnn Farmer and husband Tony, Tiffany Walts and husband Cody, Dendra Whiseman and husband Cory, Shauwn Maxie, Lora Hart and Jarrod, Kara Kohutek and Dustin, Kevin Kohutek, Cody Kohutek, Brianne Mills and husband Jake, Ashley Gothard and Susan, Carlie Gothard and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Shelly Routh Monette.
Services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 AM at the Glory Road Cowboy Church, 223 County Rd 293 Ballinger, TX. Burial will follow at the Kohutek family cemetery at Lowake, TX.
