Laruth Montgomery Jenkins

LaRuth Montgomery Jenkins passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at her residence in San Angelo.

She was born on a stretch of Highway 283, in a car, when her parents, Henry Thomas Montgomery and Ozella Cowan Montgomery, were on their way from Rockwood to the hospital in Santa Anna. After her arrival, the new family turned around and went back home to their farm on the Colorado River. LaRuth grew up and attended school in Ballinger, Texas. On September 1, 1956 she and Paul Bruce Jenkins were married in the Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger. Shortly after their wedding the couple moved to San Angelo. She worked for a time at Hemphill Wells, was a professional seamstress, and a partner with her husband at Ace Electronics Service. Her last career was with Concho Valley Council Boy Scouts of America and retired there after twenty-seven years. She was a CASA Volunteer and was awarded lifetime PTA membership.

LaRuth enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, ceramics, and various collections but enjoyed most being with family and friends. She was especially close to her nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Tom Montgomery.

LaRuth is survived by her husband Paul Bruce of San Angelo, a son Stephen Bruce Jenkins and wife Elizabeth of Ballinger, grandsons, Sergio Castillo, Cody Jenkins, and Nathan Jenkins of Ballinger, and granddaughter Chelsea Castillo of Ballinger. Also surviving two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, she is survived by a sister Dortha Wiley and husband Gary of Early, Texas and three nephews and seven nieces.

Family visitation will be at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger on Monday, September 23 from 6:00-7:30 pm. Services will be at Lange Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, September 24 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Boy Scouts of America or a favorite charity.
