Jesse Sonnenberg, 94, of Mereta passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Central Texas Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Ballinger.

He was born August 25, 1919 to Otto and Clara (Rinn) Sonnenberg in Mereta, Texas. Jesse was raised and spent his entire life in that area. At the age of 16, he graduated as salutatorian from Central High School in San Angelo. Jessie married the love of his life, Olga Wilde, on October 23, 1942 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Angelo, Texas. They shared sixty nine years together before Olga’s passing in February of 2012. He served his country in the Army and after his military service Jesse was an air brakeman for the railroad. Jesse was also a manager/member of the Mereta Coop Coffee Shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son, Dalton Sonnenberg.

Jesse is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Tonne and husband, Benny, of Eola; his daughter in-law, Theresa Sonnenberg of Paint Rock; his sons, Dennis of San Angelo, Phillip and wife, Myra, of Lowake, Rick and wife, Linda, of Ballinger; as well as 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 26 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, September 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ballinger with Fr. Hugh Wade celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Rowena.

The family would like to express special thanks to Central Texas Rehabilitation as well as Shana Zertuche and the staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery or a favorite charity.
