Dorothy Morene Burks

Dorothy Morene Burks, 88, of Ballinger passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

She was born July 17, 1925 to Henry and Velma (Summers) Leck in RioVista, Texas. Dorothy worked at Blacks Department Store, was a seamstress, and also worked at Higginbotham’s, in the hardware department, for five years. On July 16, 1988, she married Aubrey “Cleo” Burks in Carrizo Springs, Texas.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Christopher Wilson.

She is survived by her children, Peggy Wilson and husband, Bobby of Ballinger, Marilyn McShan and husband Larry, of Bridgeprot, TX, and Patricia White and husband Paul, of Valrico, FL; step-daughter, Julia Evans and husband, Wes of San Angelo; grandchildren, Baylea Evans, Elizabeth Wilson, Elizabeth Shaffer and husband, Andrew, Eric White and wife, Marion, Chad White and wife, Katie, Brian McShan, Marcus McShan and wife, Angie, and Amanda Townley and husband, John. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorene Herridge and husband, Robert of San Angelo and a brother, Marvin Leck and wife, Louise of Brownwood.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, September 28 at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Services will follow at 2:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. After the service, burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, or a favorite charity.
