Henrietta Shumate

April 1, 1915 — November 13, 2013

Henrietta (Mama Heni, Henry) Shumate, 98, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in Ballinger, Texas.

She was born April 1, 1915 to Jim and Maggie (Miller) Chamberlain in McCollough County. She married the love of her life, Moffard (M.L.) Shumate in 1935 and settled in the Brookesmith Community where they both worked for the Brookesmith School District for a number of years. After semi-retiring they both shared a passion for trapping, fishing and hunting for a number of years. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1982.

Mama Heni loved going up and down the banks of the Colorado River and fishing with her children and grandchildren and was an avid hunter up into her 70’s. She never met a stranger and was an active member of the Church of Christ until her health would no longer allow her to attend services but she never waivered in her faith. She loved spending time with her family and visiting with friends.

She is the last of eight siblings to leave this earthly life and now reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She will be missed terribly by her surviving children, daughter Ruby Bryan and husband Alton of Ballinger and son Jess Shumate and wife Mozelle of Brownwood, numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, November 15 at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 16 at Cox Cemetery, located between Brady and Winchell. Max Pratt will be officiating.
