Enedina "Annie" Reyes

Enedina (Annie) Z. Reyes, 85, of Ballinger passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014 at North Runnels Hospital peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Annie was born on May 7, 1928 in Ballinger, TX to Jessie and Lupe (Dominques) Zertuche. She was the oldest of five children and the only girl. At an early age of 15, she began to work at Ballinger City Laundry walking 18 blocks to work to provide for her family during the depression. She also worked in the fields chopping and picking cotton and cutting maize. At the age of 45, she went to night school to learn to read to receive her CNA certificate. Annie worked for the Ballinger Manor for ten years, then Ballinger Nursing Center for five years. After that, she worked as a private sitter for several different families, cherishing lots of memories especially with the Caudle and Spreen families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank G. Reyes, and two brothers Manuel and Demetrio (Slim) Zertuche.

Surviving Annie are her five children; Delia Sharp of Ennid, AZ, Ruben and Frank Jr. of Ballinger, Becky Albarado and husband Mike of Friona, TX, and Pat Reyes of Oklahoma City, OK. and two brothers; Oscar and wife Martha of Jourdanton, TX and Jeff Zertuche of Ballinger. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and another on the way, five very special nephews and a niece; Bryce, Blake, Bryan, Garrett, and Brlynn Zertuche.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 6 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Hugh Wade celebrating. Burial will follow at the Latin American Cemetery in Ballinger. Pallbearers will be Annie’s grandsons; Patrick Albarado, Stephen Albarado, Dominic Reyes, Shorty Zertuche, Danny Zertuche, and Andrew Perez.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark McKinnon and the nurses at North Runnels Hospital for the excellent care Annie received. Also special thanks to a special friend, Elia Reyna, for always being by her side.
