Marilyn Sommer, 83, of Ballinger passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
She was born on December 29, 1930 to E.A. and Leda (Cervenka) Sommer in Ballinger, Texas. After graduating from Ballinger High School, she attended the University of Texas in Austin. Marilyn was the first woman to earn a science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas. Shortly after her graduation in 1952, she moved to the Houston/La Porte area to work for Shell Oil. She retired from Shell in 1985 after 33 years of service. Marilyn loved her Astros and Longhorns but her true passion was fishing. She moved back to Ballinger in 2009.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by numerous first and second cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm on Friday, February 21 at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 22 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ballinger with David Dunn officiating.
