Elizabeth Jane Norton

Elizabeth Jane Norton, 86, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. Elizabeth was born July 5, 1927 in Pleasant Mount, Pennsylvania to Martin and Genevieve (O’Connor) DeNio. She married Richard A. Norton on August 17, 1946 in Binghamton, New York. Mr. Norton passed away September 15, 2013, at which time Mrs. Norton moved to Ballinger to live with her daughter. Elizabeth was employed as a waitress for a time, but her life-long work was that of devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a daughter, Jacqueline Alterio; and sons-in-law, Harry Cowan and Anthony Alterio. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter and selfless caregiver, Rosemarie Cowan of Ballinger; grandchildren, Ann Marie Cowan-Ozturgut of San Antonio, Shannon Marie Cowan of Ballinger, Shaun Cowan of Crestview, FL, Dina Schakle of Mt. Marion, NY, David Alterio of Woodstock, NY, and Daniel Alterio of Long Island, NY. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Elizabeth Norton will be held Thursday, March 13 at 9:00 am at Central Texas Nursing and Rehabilitation in Ballinger with Fr. Hugh Wade officiating.
