Lillie Alma (Beimer) Schwertner

February 1, 1922 — May 30, 2014

Lillie Alma Beimer Schwertner, 92, of Rowena joined her husband Victor to be with her Lord and Savior on May 30, 2014.

She was born February 1, 1922 in the small community of Kristoff, in Runnels County, to Henry and Mary (Becker) Beimer. Lillie attended school in the little Kristoff School which was on land owned by her father. She earned a diploma at the age of 14 from St. Joseph’s school on May 17, 1936 and lived in the Rowena area all her life. She married Victor John Schwertner on May 12, 1941. They were married for 57 years when he preceded her in death on May 31, 1998. Together they raised four children. Lillie was very active in her community. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She served as a member and officer in the Catholic Daughters, St. Ann’s Altar Society, Christian Mothers and the Rowena VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She received the Citizen of the Year Award in 1981 presented by the Rowena Lions Club. She and Victor loved to travel throughout the United States, Mexico, and Europe. They especially liked to go to Las Vegas, Wendover, and Laughlin. She was a devoted mother and farm wife. She and Victor raised cotton, grain, and livestock. Lillie loved her flowers, especially petunias and roses.

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a daughter, Judy Kuntz; brother Walter and wife Cordula Moeller; two brothers and one sister during the flu epidemic of 1918-1919, Clara Ann Marie, Henry William “Harry”, Arthur Joseph; granddaughter, Roxanne Schwertner; daughter-in-law, Patsy Schwertner; son-in-law, Bennie Kalina; sisters-in-law, Lilly (Arnold) Schraer, Katherine (Robert) Werner, Dora (Oscar) Pechacek, Olivia (Moeller) Schwertner; and brother-in-law, Ludwig Schwertner.

She is survived by her children, Clara Kalina of Miles; Larry Schwertner and wife Sharon of Ballinger;
Sandra Godwin and husband Gary of San Angelo; and son-in-law Ken Kuntz; brother-in-law Robert
Schwertner and wife Dorothy. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Joseph Kalina and wife Dena; Paul
Kalina and wife Dawn; Mark Kalina and wife Jodi; Diane Michalewicz and husband Kevin; Heather
Hendrickson and husband Brett, Tamra Schwertner, Lance Schwertner and wife Amy; Sara Foster; Rachel
Karr; Stephen Kuntz and wife Hollie; Marshall Godwin and fiancée Stephanie and Mason Godwin and
Tiffany. Also surviving are 22 great grandchildren. Lillie’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, June 1 at 6:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Rosary will follow at 6:30 pm. with Deacon Stanley Lange officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 2 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Ariel Lagunilla and Fr. Hubert Wade con-celebrating and Deacon Lange assisting. Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Joseph’s Building Fund, 506 Edward Street, Rowena, TX 76875 or a favorite charity.

Lillie’s family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to her caregivers at Central Texas Nursing Center, where Lillie made her home for the past year and a half; as well as Home Health and Hospice in Ballinger.
