Herchel T. Gray, age 73, of Ballinger, passed away Friday evening, August 8, 2008 at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 17, 1935 in Burnet, TX to William Mack and Hattie Kay Hensley Gray. He married Barbra Ann Whitten on April 29, 1954 in Clovis NM. He was a commercial house painter for many years before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved camping at the South Llano River. When indoors, he enjoyed reading western themed books. But his great love was spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Monroe, William, Franklin and Tommy.
Survivors include his wife, Barbra of Ballinger; daughters, Patricia Harrell and husband Tommy, Nalda Keesee and husband, David and Tammie Mueller and husband, Steve all of Ballinger; grandchildren, Tommy Harrell, Jr. Shellie Harrell, Herchel Harrell, Rhonda (Keesee) Molina, Lisa Keesee, Amanda (Mueller) King and Angela (Mueller) Reed; brothers, Clarence Gray of Grape Creek, C.A. Gray of Junction and Bobby Gray of Winters; and a sister, Mary Lee Tinney of Grape Creek; and 19 great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends Sunday, August 10th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Lange Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday August 11, 2008 at the First Church of God, 1301 Broad Ave. with graveside following in the Old Runnels Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Herchel Harrell, Tommy Harrell, Jr., Rusty Oldham, Jalon Reed, Kelly King and Luke Molina.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Leukemia Society or a favorite charity.
