Margaret Ann Hoelscher

October 28, 1922 — July 25, 2014

Margaret Hoelscher, 91, passed away July 25, 2014, at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident for 10 months. Margaret, probably better known as Maggie, was born to Joseph Adolph and Mary Theresa Seidl Rohmfeld on October 28, 1922 in Rowena, Tx. She was baptized Margaret Ann Theresa in Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Maggie was a graduate of Saint Joseph Catholic School. She loved to have fun with her good friends who all liked to dance and jitter bug, play softball and watch their favorite Rowena men’s baseball team. Maggie was a pretty good pitcher and a home run hitter during those years, I have been told.

Leoran Clois Hoelscher, son of Clements and Agnes Frerich Hoelscher, and Margaret were married at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on June 1, 1950. They purchased their farm from Otto and Minnie Ocker a few miles south of Olfen and it is at that farm that they worked with their sheep, cattle, a few hogs, goats, turkeys and chickens, that they sold eggs to have extra money. They were members of Saint Boniface Catholic Church, where Maggie was a member of the Christian Mother’s Altar Sodality. Mom always had a beautiful flower garden along with the vegetables for canning. She was a superb seamstress and cook, making the most delicious divinity for us at Christmas. One does not appreciate those special treats and moments until they are gone.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Seidl Rohmfeld, by her brother, Edwin in 1945 from complications of appendicitis; by older brother, William Rohmfeld, Sr. and his wife, Erna; her granddaughter, Mary Kahlig in 1977 of Tulsa; her son-in-law, Charles Kahlig in 2009 from cancer. Also preceding her in death in January 2010, was her husband of 60 years, Leoran. After his death, Margaret’s health declined as she always said she missed him so much.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Ann (Pat) Kahlig of Keller, grandson Kevin Kahlig of Ft. Worth, grandson Bryan Kahlig and his wife, Maria, of Aubrey, Tx. Also surviving are her three great-grandchildren, Molly, Lucy and Michael Kahlig, children of Maria and Bryan, who will also bring Margaret and Leoran their fourth grand child, a little girl in late November, 2014. Many nieces and nephews also survive, along with friends who always remembered her fondly.

Margaret’s family wishes to gratefully recognize the caring nurses and aides of Ballinger Home Health; the Ballinger Memorial Hospital staff; Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center staff who diligently cared for my mom with compassion during her most stressful days, and Hospice of Ballinger who cared for Mom, making her as comfortable as possible. A very heartfelt thank you to the caregivers who made her smile and laugh throughout the years and made it possible for her to stay at her home. Vincenta and Narciso Contreras are also remembered for their many years of constant support and help.

Rosary and visitation for family and friends will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday, July 27 at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, July 28 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we would be most grateful if you would consider the Saint Boniface Cemetery Fund, or a charity of your choice.
