Funeral services for Mr. Robert Wayne Allen, Sr., 80, of Gilmer will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home of Marshall, Texas with Rev. Craig Evers and Rev. James Parris officiating. Interment will follow in the Cave Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 1, 2008 at the funeral home. Mr. Allen, a longtime resident of Marshall, passed away Friday night, August 29, 2008 in Ballinger, Texas.

Robert Allen was born in Richland Springs, Texas to Clarence Allen and Pearl Hudson Allen on July 20, 1928. He was a member of Indian Rock Baptist Church near Gilmer. He belonged to the Marshall Masonic Lodge #22 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was President of the Mule Riders Association, the East Texas Trail Riders Association, and past Captain of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Posse. He worked for Monarch Tile for forty-four years.

He is survived by one son, Wayne Allen and wife, Carolyn, of Harleton; two daughters, Toni Bowman and husband, Roy, of Ballinger; and Glenda Hoffman, also of Ballinger. Also surviving Mr. Allen are his mother, Pearl Cantrell of Richland Springs; step-daughters, Kathy Tucker and husband, Rodney, of Kingsport, Tennessee; Kim Jarvis and husband, Russell, of White Oak; Diane Hymer of San Antonio; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Allen and wife, Lorey, of Cushing; Emmet Allen and wife, Patty, of Michigan; and sisters, Ruth Kruger of San Angelo; Lou Larsen and husband, Bill, of Sugarland; Faye Currie of San Saba; and Anno Richards and husband, James, of Abilene.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Cody Bowman, Cord Bowman, Jody Frey, Kris Davis, Keith Hoffman, Tanner Allen, Robert Trout, and Matt Gaskill. Honorary pallbearers are Dillon Jarvis and Daniel Jarvis.
