Louise Miller

Louise Miller, native of Ballinger, went home to be with her Lord on September 4, 2008, passing at St. Paul Hospital, University of Texas Medical Center, Dallas, following a long illness.

Born Melva Louise Miller on October 8, 1936 in Ballinger to Nettie Routh Sledge and Charles Stonewall Miller, Jr., she was a descendent of pioneer settlers of Ballinger. Her grandfather, Charles Stonewall Miller, was founder of Ballinger State Bank and Trust Company; grandfather, A. W. Sledge, was first editor and publisher of The Ballinger Banner-Ledger, forerunner of The Ballinger Ledger, the newspaper still serving Ballinger and Runnels County today.

She was a graduate of Ballinger High School Class of 1955, and she served as a flight attendant with Continental Airlines many years, making frequent flights to the Pacific transporting U.S. troops to and from Korean and Vietnam War zones. Louise was a longtime member and ordained elder of First Presbyterian Church of Ballinger. She was a licensed real estate agent, working for many years selling homes in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Ballinger until retiring in 2006 due to health issues. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Charles Stonewall Miller, III.

Louise is survived by two sisters, Charlotte Miller Flynt Northington and husband, Bob, of Fairview; and Arlene Miller Barnett Johnson of Dallas. Also surviving are her nieces, Karan Flynt Thetford and husband, Rick, of Justin; Kathy Flynt Clements of Frisco; Lana Flynt Kovner and husband, Gary, of Bell Canyon, CA; Becky Barnett Bender and husband, Bob, of Celina; Linda Barnett of Dallas; and a nephew Chuck Barnett of Carrollton. Grandnieces and grandnephews surviving are Trisha Thetford Stone, Tonya Thetford Schweighofer, Angela Clements, Kristel Kovner, Trent Thetford, and Adam Clements. Also surviving are Zak, Jake and Matthew Stone, Caleb Schweighofer and Avery Clements; plus a very close cousin and friend, Dorothy Hearn of Ballinger. Remembered are special friends and caregivers, Diane and Weldon Brevard of Ballinger,
and many others in Ballinger, California, and Nevada.

There will be a time of visitation at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6. A funeral/worship service will be at First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bert A. Bronaugh officiating, assisted by Pastor Kary Rawlings. The interment service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger.
