Flora Mae Stovall, 84, of Ballinger passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in San Angelo.
She was born six miles north of Zephyr, Texas to David and Mollie Amanda (Ticer) Stovall on April 8, 1930. She graduated with valedictorian honors from Zephyr High School in 1948. She obtained a Masters Degree of Education from Howard Payne University. She also obtained a Library of Science Certification from the University of Texas. She attended a NDEA Institute at North Texas State University for Library Certification. She received her driver’s education certification from Hardin Simmons University. She also received her Texas Real Estate Broker’s License. Her teaching career included five years at Lake View High School in San Angelo and thirty one years at Ballinger Independent School District. She coached all Jr. High and Sr. High sports, as well as, teaching English for ten years. She also taught Driver’s Education and served as librarian for 26 years before retiring in 1991. She then served as bookkeeper and plumber’s helper (for ten years) for her husband Joe Martinez. Flora was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ballinger.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents and the following brothers and sisters: sister, Dorice (Stovall); brother, Melvin Stovall; brother, Leonard Q. Stovall; brother, C.D. Stovall; brother, Jimmie Stovall; sister, Lillian (Stovall) Cockrell; sister, Julia (Stovall) Townsend; brother, Bergess Stovall; and sister, Merle (Stovall) Smith.
Flora is survived by her sister, Montie Ward and husband Joe; nephew, Keith Ward and wife Shauna; niece, Keeva Fraizer; great-niece, Cherish Morgan; great-niece Chelsea Marsh; and other numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a host of friends.The family request that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Ballinger Family Life Center.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, January 9 at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 10 at the First Baptist Church in Ballinger with Bro. Bobby Broyles and Bro. Matthew Broyles officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ballinger.
