Joyce Ann Black

Joyce Ann Black, 75, of San Angelo departed this life on November 18, 2008. She was born in Zwolle, Louisiana on May 5, 1933 to Sam C. and Bertha Machen Wood. She graduated from Texarkana Texas High School and attended Texas Wesleyan College in Ft. Worth.

She lived in Ft. Worth where she was active in many civic organizations, receiving a national award for her work with the Camp Fire Girls of America. She married Bob Black on September 7, 1973, and they made their home in Ballinger, Texas. While in Ballinger she was active in the Business and Professional Women and Ballinger Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president of both. She was also a member of the Carnegie Library Board and the First Christian Church.

Joyce and Bob moved to Ruidoso and enjoyed many friendships and good times in New Mexico. Later they made their home in San Angelo and Ruidoso. She enjoyed a variety of things from cooking to horse racing. She always enjoyed an afternoon of bridge with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her devoted companion, Ms. Bow.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bobby Black of San Angelo; her daughters, Holly Wilson and husband, Bryan, of Elkhart; Leigh Page and husband, Jody, of Kennedale; Leslie Honeycutt and husband, James, of Weatherford; Priscilla Rothwell and husband, Rick, of Abilene; and Angela Donaldson and husband, Gary, of San Angelo.

She is also survived by grandchildren Rachel Nolan, Callie Montalvo, Jordan Page, Holly Honeycutt, Shelby Honeycutt, Lance Hall, Brad Rothwell, Cole Rothwell, April Wilson, and Chris Wilson; and by several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Joyce Black will be Thursday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Ballinger with Lynn Smith and Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Burial will follow in Ballinger Evergreen Cemetery.
