Curtis William Dixon

Curtis William Dixon, 86, of Ballinger, Texas passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 in a local care center.

Curtis was born in Ballinger on October 15, 1928 to Cecil W. and Zellie (McQueen) Dixon. He was the oldest of three children. Curtis graduated from Ballinger High School in 1945. He attended and graduated from Droughons Business College in Abilene, Texas. He also attended Angelo State College where he was classified as a sophomore. Curtis lived in Eden, Texas from 1959 until 1968. During this time he served as pastor of the Mexican Baptist Mission in Eden.

Curtis “Cowboy” Dixon played the guitar and sang on live radio shows and other venues in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. He worked for West Texas Utilities Company in Ballinger, both as an auditor and as local manager, retiring in 1990 after 39 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Adelia, of Ballinger; one son, Curtis Waymond Dixon and wife, Katie, of San Angelo; sisters, Rose (Dixon) Campbell of Ballinger, and Betty Jane (Dixon) McClure and husband, Wayne, of Coleman. Also surviving are five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 16, at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, with graveside services at 2:00 pm at the Eden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews, and honorary pallbearers will be the girls of Ballinger Home Health. Casual dress is appropriate.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to close family friend, Kathy (Stokes) Fritze, for her love, devotion, and assistance. We would also like to acknowledge the employees of Ballinger Home Health and Central Texas Nursing and Rehab for their care and kindness.
