Carolyn Latzel Glass

Carolyn Latzel Glass, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at her residence in San Angelo.

She was born on May 7, 1926 to John and Minnie (Sturm) Latzel in Miles, TX. Carolyn married Arland Glass on May 2, 1946 in Rowena. To this marriage of 41 years, they were blessed with three sons and three daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Carolyn attended a small country school, of 7 grades, north of Miles. It was called the Red Bank. Later in life, she took the GED test and LVN training under Mrs. Marie Hoover. She worked at St. John’s Hospital several years and then went into private duty nursing. She spent several weeks with the Baptist Missionary in Peru. Carolyn and her husband moved to Eola from Lowake in 1950 where they farmed until the death of her husband, Arland. Together, they were active in the establishment of St. Philip Catholic Church in Eola. She was a religious teacher, a past president of the St. Maria Altar Society, secretary of the treasury on the church board. Carolyn was active in the Eola Independent School P.T.A which is now consolidated with the Eden Independent School District. She was a member of the Tom Green Co. Component Society and Texas League of Vocational Nurses, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. Post 1815 of San Angelo. She belonged to the Texas Association of Health Care and volunteered at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, which she enjoyed very much. She loved her flower gardening, an ability she inherited from her mother.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arland; daughters, Edyth Glass and Lenore Barnes; son John Glass; three sisters, Evelyn Latzel Scott, Pauline and Cecilia Schwertner; and three brothers, Robert Latzel, Leo and Elo Schwertner.

She is survived by her sons, Curtis Glass and wife Karen of Miles, Andrew Glass of San Angelo; daughter Michele Glass-Turner of Midland; daughter-in-law Jean Glass of Miles; and son-in-law Arlie Barnes of Orient, TX.

Pallbearers will be Carolyn’s grandsons, Gordon Skelton, Jason, Eric, Anthony, John David, and Kevin Glass.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm on Friday, May 1 at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

The family request memorials be made to the Burn Institute Galveston Unit, West Texas Rehabilitation, Hospice of San Angelo, or a favorite charity.
