Joseph Franklin Selby

November 4, 1933 — May 1, 2015

Joe was born in Hillsboro, Texas November 4, 1933 to William and Bessie Selby. He went to his Heavenly Father on May 1, 2015.

Joe moved to Ballinger his junior year of high school and played football for the Bearcats two years. He entered the Air Force and served from 1952 until 1975. He retired as a Master Sergeant. After a terrible wreck in 1978, he moved back to Ballinger. He worked at Telephone Industries for a few years and then as Traffic Manager at Mueller Supply Company until his retirement in 1998.

Joe served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director, deacon and chairman of deacons at the First Baptist Church. His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

He also served on the Ballinger Memorial Hospital Board, Runnels County Appraisal Board, City Council, Planning and Zoning Board, was a member and president of the Ballinger Noon Lions Club, and was mayor of Ballinger for six years.

Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease. He loved his church, family, country, and the Texas Longhorns. He loved to play “88” and was a “people person.” He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Clydelle; daughter, Jodi Linn and husband, Jerry, of Beaufort, SC; son, Joey Selby and wife, Debbie, of Odessa; four step-sons, Robby Bryan and wife, Susie, of Ballinger, Kenny Bryan of Ore City, Scotty Bryan of Ballinger, and Brad Bryan and wife, Keri, of Sherman. Joe also raised three step-children who looked up to him as their real Dad: Debbie Robinson and husband, Ted, of Bonaire, GA; Randy Manning and wife, Cheryl, of Lizella GA; and Cheryl McCullough and husband, Paul, of Perry, GA.
Joe is also survived by two sisters, Tiny Cain and Shirley Seay of Hutto; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be Friday, May 8, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, May 9, at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Ballinger. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
