Marilyn Egan

October 15, 1941 — June 12, 2015

Marilyn Joyce Watkins Egan went to be with her Lord and Savior at age 73 at 12 noon on June 12, 2015. Marilyn was born to L.B. and Mary Watkins on October 15, 1941 in Norton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter; Rebecca LeeAnn Egan, and her bothers; Jerry Dean and Richard Watkins.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jerry B. Egan; her son, Patrick and his wife Sarah; three grandchildren, Slade Egan and his wife Ashley, McKenzie Egan and her fiancé Brent Clift, and Bailee Egan; two great-granddaughters, Rylee and Paisley Egan, two great-grandchildren on the way, Brazos Clift and Parker Egan; and her sister, Rita Watkins. Also surviving Marilyn are multiple nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She grew up in Wingate and attended and graduated from Winters High School in 1959. During her high school career she won 1st place in the state shorthand competition. She married the love of her life, Jerry, on March 5, 1960. Soon after they were married, she went to work as a legal secretary for Grindstaff and Grindstaff attorneys in Ballinger. After their daughter Becky passed in 1965, she and Jerry moved to Dallas where she worked for a law firm in downtown Dallas. In 1970 Marilyn and Jerry moved back to Ballinger where Marilyn worked for attorney E.B. Underwood. After his retirement, she then went to work for David Read attorney at law in San Angelo. Marilyn was appointed Runnels County Judge in 1995 and served three elected terms until she retired in 2010. She also served two terms as director of Ballinger Memorial Hospital Board.

Marilyn’s hobbies included spending countless hours with her grandchildren. She and Jerry loved to go on vacations every summer and took the grandchildren with them. They traveled to New Mexico, Colorado, the Gulf coast, and many other places. Marilyn also loved to read books and watch the Texas Rangers play baseball.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ballinger. Marilyn was a part of the WMU and a member of the Naomi Sunday School Class for a number of years. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and she always put others before herself.

Marilyn's family would like to thank the many individuals who cared for her during the last several months.

Family Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 15, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Ballinger with Ferris Akins and Bobby Broyles officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers include Ricky Strube, Thurman Self, Skipper Wheeless, Bobby Moore, Johnny Bob Pritchard, Stuart Holden, and James Rose.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Ballinger food pantry or a charity of your choice.
